Artists Lab (Asobi-Ba/Playground)
The RGS Artists Lab (AKA Asobi-Ba/Playground) is explorational, transformational and developmental program for early - mid career artists who are interested in applying RGS Butoh, Movement, and Physical Theatre into their own work. The purpose of this program is creating an opportunity (Ba) for artists to explore their creativity with playful spirits (Asobi) to bloom their potential gifts. We support to produce their work to be seen in public setting to receive constructive feedback for their future development.

Work #1
SAKI KAWAMURA

IKIGAI
Picture
Exploring the journey to discover Ikigai, the Japanese concept of finding a “reason for being” is the time for reflection of our lives. This production invites the audience to experience all the turbulence of emotions through two human bodies by using Butoh (a Japanese avant-garde dance form), visual art and film .

Saki Kawamura is a NY-based Japanese director and interdisciplinary artist, her passion for theatre led her to move to NYC in 2019 to study. She currently pursues her MFA in Directing at the Actors Studio Drama School. She is so blessed to have the opportunity to work with the great artists and establish her work as Ren Gyo Soh. She puts great value on the process of collaboration, and loves to hear the stories of her collaborators and put them into her work. She believes that this emphasis on collaboration is what makes her work unique and singular.
