Seed Lab
A Creative Laboratory for Interdisciplinary Artists
Seed Lab is a low-tech, immersive creative laboratory designed for interdisciplinary performing artists at the early stage of their creative process. Selected artists share works-in-progress with public visitors, followed by a discussion moderated by RenGyoSoh.
This experimental space invites artists to explore and challenge the boundaries of their work, with a focus on avant-garde approaches and the synthesis of multiple artistic disciplines.
This event is donation-based and open to the public.

SCHEDULE
Seed Lab #1 : Saturday, October 4th, 2pm Seed Lab #2 : Saturday, November 1st, 2pm Grace & St. Paul's Church (123 west 71st Street, New York) APPLICATION GUIDELINES
We are not accepting the application at this moment. Eligibility Artists are invited to use this platform to share their work at the early stage of development. Please note that this is not a space for finished pieces, but rather an opportunity to share the creative process with intimate community. Your piece should be no longer than 15 minutes, and each evening will feature four artists sharing their work. Tech There will be minimal technical support and no special lighting (daylight will be provided through windows). Artists should plan to be fully self-sufficient, particularly when using complex sound cues or pre-approved props. A basic speaker will be available for use. All props must be communicated in advance and approved by RenGyoSoh. If a performance involves any mess or requires clean-up, RenGyoSoh must be notified at least a week prior to the event. Artists are welcome to videotape or photograph their own work. Space Seed Lab takes place in Grace & St. Paul’s Church located at 123 West 71st Street on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. The floor is light grey wood with white brick walls on the back. Shoes are allowed in the space, but any shoes worn should not damage the floor in any way (e.g., black sole shoes). Tape on the floor or walls may not be used without permission from RenGyoSoh. The use of any potentially messy and/or destructive substances (including but not limited to: clay, glass, water, sand, glitter, candles, open flame, burning candles, bodily fluids) in the church is prohibited as well as anything that could potentially damage the floor and space in general. Email us at [email protected] with any questions. |
Seed Lab Manager: Sumire Muratsu
Sumire Muratsu is an artist from Japan, who works with body as a medium to explore the underlying logics of nature — shared across micro-organisms, planets, and humans alike. Influenced by Eastern philosophy and its perspective towards ecology, their works seek to extract and translate cosmic phenomena that give form to what we invisibly experience, offering insights into psychological patterns, particularly those labeled as mental illness. A current intern at Movement Research.
