Instructor:
Fabio Motta is an actor, clown and teaching artist based in Melbourne, Australia.He has had the fortune of acting and devising theatre in Australia, Italy and the United States. Fabio is a certified teacher of Fitzmaurice Voicework®. He trained at and graduated from many institutions across the globe, with masters in their field: Accademia Teatrale Veneta (Italy) in Commedia Dell’Arte; a graduate of HB Studio and the Hagen Teacher Lab under the mentorship of Carol Rosenfeld ; 16th Street Actors Studio; He has trained in acting with Larry Moss, Lyndsey Davies, Catherine Fitzmaurice and Austin Pendleton. Fabio studied Clown and Le Jeu with Philippe Gauliere; Clown and Bouffon pedagogy with Giovanni Fusetti. He apprenticed and taught under Zack Fines in Clowning and Games and trained in the advance teacher training in Clown with Christopher Bayes (Head of Physical Acting at the Yale School of Drama). Fabio has taught at NYU, HB studio, the Ume Group (Physical Theatre Ensemble New York). He had devised and performed in Commedia dell’arte shows for over 8 years with ‘Make a Scene’ and has been a Commedia Dell’arte consultant for various productions, conservatory programs and tertiary institutions. Fabio is a company member of the New York based physical theatre company ‘The Ume Group’ where he performed, devised, consulted in numerous shows in the style of Clowning and Commedia Dell’arte. In 2018, he directed 'Fish-kebab' a contemporary Commedia show as part of the UNESCO International Commedia day in Melbourne.
He has also teachers at 16th Street Acting Studio, St. Martin’s Youth Theatre, The VCA and the National Theatre Drama School.
YOKKO (She/He/They) is an Actor, Butoh Theatre Artist from Japan, specialized in Acting, Butoh Dance, Physical Theatre, Movement for Actors, solo performance, and Yoga. She is also a choreographer, director, writer, sound designer, film maker, clown, Theatre educator, certified therapeutic essential yoga & Yoga Nidra instructor and USUI Jikiden Reiki Master Teacher as well. Her works have been presented across the USA and Europe, and received several awards including Best One Woman Show Best Choreography, & Best Physical Theatre at United Solo 2014-2015 (Butoh Medea). She has acted in, devised, and choreographed a variety of local and international shows and films. Her choreographed & directed work, SHINKA won Outstanding of premier Production of a play and Outstanding Choreography & Movement at New York Innovative Theatre Award 2019. Most recently, her Butoh work has been seen in several music videos, including I Don’t Know Where We Went Wrong (HOKO, 2020) and Ready To Let Go (Cage The Elephant, 2019). She has been regularly offering workshops (Butoh & Movement, Butoh & Physical Theatre, Transformation, Movement for Actors) nationally internationally: Atelier Teatro Fisico Performing Arts University in Turin (Italy), Edinburgh (UK), Warsaw (Poland), Izmir (Turkey), St. Lawrence University (NY), SUNY New Paltz (NY), Amherst College (MA), Actors Studio Drama School MFA, Stella Adler Academy of Acting (LA), The Actors Studio (NYC), Ecstatic Dance (NYC), and now Online. She is also producing artistic director of UNFIX NYC. She currently serves as an adjunct faculty in Movement for Actors at BFA Acting Studio program by the New Group at Long Island University in Brooklyn (LIU Brooklyn) and BA PA Performing Ensemble program at Pace University.

Butoh & Movement with Yokko FILLED!!
Wait list is now opened! Ren Gyo Soh offers a 12 weeks training course with Yokko this spring 2022. The artistic director, and award-winning artist Yokko has been offering her training courses, workshops, and classes in Butoh Dance, Movement, Acting and Physical Theatre both nationally & Internationally since 2014. She has been serving BA, BFA (Acting & Dance) & MFA (Acting) Programs in USA, and Performing Arts University in Italy, and has created the training courses for each programs ranging 30-100 hours, and also privately with actors, dancers, interdisciplinary artist, visual artist, musicians/performers including a grammy Award winner.
This course will be the condensed and also evolving version of what she has been offering in those programs, such as Butoh Dance, Pure Movement, Noguchi Movement, Acting, Laban Movement Analysis, Clown Games, Voice, Yoga, and Physical Theatre. |

Yuri has been interested in different body work and practiced such elements as Ballet, Yoga, Noguchi Gymnastics, Noguchi Seitai, Taichi, Karate, etc.. Those practices are helpful to prepare the body to be neutral and energetic. For the first part of this workshop, she will teach her personal physical practice inspired by those body work elements, including ideas of Butoh philosophy.
The second part is taught by Seisaku. He learned Butoh under Tatsumi Hijikata and Yoko Ashikawa. He has developed his own Butoh method while keeping the most important original essence from those masters. He has many interesting methods for how to make the body empty. You will find the possibility that you can be anything you want if you can become empty.

ANNUAL JOINT WORKSHOP WITH JORDAN ROSIN
RESONANT BODIES: ONLINE BUTOH PERFORMANCE INTENSIVE
with Jordan Rosin & Yokko Monday – Friday, May 31- June 4, 10am-3pm (PDT), 1pm – 6pm EDT ONLINE via Zoom (4.5 hours each day, 22.5 hours total) FINAL PERFORMANCE: Saturday, June 5, 6pm – 7:30pm PDT/9-10:30pm live via Zoom In this 22.5 hour, week-long intensive participants will engage tools from Butoh Dance and European Physical Theatre traditions to cultivate deeper awareness, imagination, & expressive capacity, while creating an original performance, which will be showcased at an online public showing on June 5. Mornings are dedicated to somatically-informed physical training and conditioning through disciplines such as noguchi gymnastics, mime, yoga, acrobatics, contact improvisation, Lecoq technique, Viewpoints, Laban, and Pure Movement. Afternoons are dedicated to learning Jordan & Yokko’s repertory choreography, and the creation of an original Butoh Dance composition under the guidance of Jordan Rosin & Yokko. Jordan Rosin (he/him) is a director/choreographer, actor/creator, and researcher/teacher, specializing in Butoh Dance and ensemble-devised physical theatre. Jordan was co-founder & Producing Artistic Director of the The Ume Group in New York City from 2011-2016; is a frequent collaborator with Ren Gyo Soh ; and is the creator of DREAM DANCES™ . Choreography credits include the internationally acclaimed Citizens of Nowhere, which won “Best Movement Composition” and “Most Relevant Discourse” at the 2019 Festival Internacional de Teatro Universitario at Teatro UNAM; Butoh Medea, which won “Best Physical Theatre” & “Best Choreography” at the 2015 United Solo Festival and has been performed in Turkey, Italy, Scotland, Poland, Germany and at colleges & universities across the US. Other projects include The Ume Group’s Butoh Electra; Facet; Isis Variations; Dream Dances; and Lysistrata Project. Jordan received his BFA in Acting & Directing from Syracuse University and MFA in Ensemble-Based Physical Theatre from Dell’Arte International .
