Mã: The Exodus is a beginning of an autobiographical exploration of the immigrant journey to find identity in the space between two worlds. A quest to reconnect all the things that are lost to the water in exchange for dreams, for freedom, and for autonomy. Embark on the journey through the fabrics of memory, illusions, family, and prayers, to find acceptance of the in-between and transcend into the liberation of existence without definition. Zak Ma (Performer, Creator) is a New York based Vietnamese-American actor and physical theatre artist, aiming to liberate the soul, encourage its limitless expression, and saturate its existence through his work. Zak holds an MFA in Acting from the Actors Studio Drama School, and is currently a member of a Butoh theatre company, Ren Gyo Soh. His recent works include EN:2021, Ma on the Edge, and Ikigai: a purpose for living. Zak is beyond grateful to the Artist Commissioning Program at QCA, the City Artists Corp of NYFA, and the support of his friends and mentors who made this passion project possible. zak-ma.com.

Rui Dun (Director, Projection Designer) is a theater artist from China, based in Brooklyn. She creates/ directs/ manages/ performs theatrical content combining disciplines such as play, movement, dance, puppetry and physical comedy. She believes in the power of art for social/environmental justice. Her work has been seen in China, London, New York ,and across the United States. In New York, her work has been seen at 3-legged Dog, The Tank, Hudson Guild Theatre, New Ohio Theatre, UNFIX NYC, Planet Connections Theatre Festivity, NY Fringe, and New York Theatre Festival. She is grateful to be working with Zak on Mã: The Intermediate through this transactional time.

Jacob Elkin (Composer) is a musician, composer and educator based in NYC. Through the integration of space, noise and microtonality, his compositions seek an abstract expression of contemporary concerns. His work has been heard around the world including recent performances in Moscow, London and Bucharest. The spatial physicality of his music has found expression through collaborations with dancers Tebby Ramasike (South Africa), Erika Mulkern (UK), Elisabeth Damour (France), Denis Sanglard (France), Michael Paul Henry (UK) and local dancers of New York. Mr. Elkin has been written about in many publications including Broadway World, OperaWire, New Music USA, I Care if you Listen and Avant Music News. His music is available on WAW and Ablaze records. Mr. Elkin is on faculty as brass instructor at the United Nations International School.

Saki Kawamura (Program Director) is a NY-based Japanese director and interdisciplinary artist, her passion for theatre led her to move to NYC in 2019 to study. She currently pursues her MFA in Directing at the Actors Studio Drama School. She is so blessed to have the opportunity to work with the great artists and establish her work as Ren Gyo Soh. She puts great value on the process of collaboration, and loves to hear the stories of her collaborators and put them into her work. She believes that this emphasis on collaboration is what makes her work unique and singular.

Yoshiko Sienkiewicz (Artistic Director) has been leading an award winning Butoh Theatre Group, Ren Gyo Soh since 2014. She is an award-winning Japanese artist, whose work has been presented across the USA and Europe. She has acted in, devised, and choreographed a variety of local and international shows and films. Most recently, her Butoh work has been seen in several music videos, including I Don’t Know Where We Went Wrong (HOKO, 2020), Ready To Let Go (Cage The Elephant, 2019), Ausencias (NOIA, 2019), and Dream Decay (POW!, 2019) She serves as an adjunct Movement faculty at several programs in the city.
